Yes, two posts today on the Princess Royal. It’s not every day a lady turns 70, after all, and we think we royal bloggers don’t give her nearly enough attention. In anticipation of her upcoming birthday (August 15), we look back at her most fabulous style decade, 1968 to 1978.
Eighteen year old Anne sporting menswear at the Windsor Horse trials in 1968 (first slide) and a jaunty hat in 1969 (second slide).
Hats? No problem. Anne sports a series of hats that are smart, sassy and very, very sixites.
Speaking of hats, here is a classic hat-off! 1969 was a good year for hats.
Trooping the Colour 1969 featured *two* fabulous pieces of sixties headgear, and some synchronized head snaps.
The Princess understood the value of bright colors in a crowd (as did her family, quite obviously), but my first thoght when seeing this photo was that our Anne has some gams. The family group is from Prince Charles’ Investiture in 1969.
1970 was QUITE a year for royal hattery, if this is any indication. This is Anne presenting awards at the Commonwealth Games that year.
WEll, I guess 1971 was also a year for hats…
Yes, ma’am, we see you. Where are those earrings?
Anne in Canada in in regimental colors of the 8th Canadian Hussars during the 1974 tour with Mark Philiips.
Saving the best for last, of course. Nothing beats her riding gear.
We know you all have your own Princess Royal favorites. You notice we have two posts today, because the Spam post is all about uniforms. Let your colorful, wacky and freaky sartorial flag fly here.
Happy birthday, ma’am!
