Defense of the Ensemble – Queen Letizia in Carolina Herrera

Last week Queen Letizia attended the Governing Council of the Army Orphans Board. It was an event that involved meeting with children, so there was lots of leaning in and bending down. Her ensemble had to meet those needs.

The Facts

The Queen wore a Carolina Herrera coat, which is described as having a boucle “fringe”, which it does. However, the more significant design element is the half boucle, half solid fabric construction of the piece. She paired it with her Uterque leggings and Magrit Mila pumps. What do you think?

The Case For the Ensemble

The Handbag: So help me, I think this works even though my initial reaction was “I think those leggings wrinkle too much”. I suspect in person they look much smoother and I just love the coat. Also, it worked for the event: totally business professional when sitting at the conference table but kid-friendly when needed.

The Case Against the Ensemble

OC: This is outfit belongs to Caroline Grimaldi Junot Casiraghi Hanover. It’s totally whack. I don’t mind the color story, though.

The Case Of a Horribly Confused Mind

LiL: First off, I thought this was a short jacket with a longer blouse sticking out from underneath. Now that I know it’s actually a one piece coat, I think maybe she shouldn’t have tried to pair it with trousers that make it look like a baby doll dress worn over leggings. I do like the separate components, but not the actual outfit. Which leaves me with a Horribly Confused Mind, longing to see this paired with a skirt of some sort before I make a final decision.
