Hofdame Bits and Bobs

Housekeeping: Hey all, there are some embargoed photos of Amalia on a few other platforms that were leaked early. In case anyone comes across them, let’s not post them here. We want to stay on the good side of our Dutch allies ; ). We have a post dedicated to the Princess of Orange’s 18th birthday tomorrow ; ).

Another week, another canceled state visit, alas. The Dutch state visit to Greece, scheduled for December 13 through 15, has been postponed due to the resurgence of the coronavirus. For us, it’s a disappointment since Max has been on a sartorial tear for these state visits, but as always, public health remains the priority. (Thank you, Triple-A, for pointing us to this news.)

On that note, Princess Beatrix – Oma around this parts – was recently diagnosed with Covid. Reports are that her symptoms are mild and that she is isolating and resting. Baguette best to Oma.

It’s a good time for us to say to all Baguettes: stay safe and healthy! We need you all around here! Now, let’s move from serious matters to the more frivolous ones.

Culture lovers rejoice! Getty has some terrific photos of both the Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to the Faberge Exhibit and Prince Charles’s visit to the Royal College of Music. See it all here.

Max in orange! What else can we say about that?

Japan

Her Imperial Highness Princess Aiko, The Princess Toshi, greeted the Emperor (also her dad!) on the occasion of her 20th birthday. She participated in the complete routine of coming of age ceremonies. She wore a tiara and necklace most recently in the possession of her Aunt Sayako and the traditional robe décolleté. There is a video of the ceremonies, too. (Thanks to Baguette Avery!)

Belgium

Those crazy kids from Belgium recently celebrated their 22nd anniversary and released an official photo. Do you think Mathilde knows I call her “Colorful Tils” and doesn’t want to disappoint me?

Sweden

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel helped the Royal Lawn Tennis Club celebrate their 125th anniversary and Victoria wore her tennis whites! Well, not really. She wore a Tiger of Sweden suit, which is one of her sharper takes on the royal lady pantsuit. The ever-reliable UFONomore has all the details on her accessories.

She then left for a solo official trip to Paris to celebrate and solidify the relationship between the two countries. She visited the Swedish Institute – which was opened by her father! – and then attended the launch of the book Amitié – The Swedish Institute in Paris: A Love Story. At first, we thought she paired up her Dior skirt with some new shirts, but it’s actually her Pär Engsheden red midi skirt and Filippa K jacket and a new & Other Stories sweater. UFONoMore has all the details.

Britain

Princess Anne became the patron of the Not Forgotten Association in 2000 after the Duchess of Kent held the position for 35 years. The long-running Association (started by George V and Queen Mary!) supports members of the Armed Services and helps combat isolation and loneliness. The Princess hosted the Royal Christmas Party, and honestly, looked like she enjoyed it as much as the invitees.

The Countess of Wessex has been a busy bee this season. There isn’t much to report sartorially, but she has been doing the yeoman’s work in keeping the royal family’s patronages in good order. Here she visits the Lighthouse, digging in to help with making snacks and Christmas Care packages.

She also got into the Christmas spirit clothes-wise to visit Disability Initiative to honor the UN International Day of Persons with a Disability.

Princess Eugenie supported her friend Mark Bradford by attending his exhibition at the Serralves Museum. They say this Me and Em dress is a maxi but I would classify it as a midi myself.

Tiaras in the Wild

Oh, I know that Baguettes can get wrinkly-nosed at the use of hearts in jewelry design (I can myself) but just look at the center stone in this Graff Infinity tiara. Tatler has all the details here.
