Hofdame Bits and Bobs

Let’s shake off the mid-winter blues (or, if you are joining us from Australia, the heat of summer) and look into some royal business.

Miss Kate cuddles cute dogs and Camilla gives a speech to mark the 75th anniversary of the publication of “Anne Frank – A Diary of a Young Girl”. Joanna Lumley was in attendance at Camilla’s talk, so there is an additional reason to take a look. It was a serious and important event that shouldn’t be missed. It’s all here.

Forty for the Fortieth – Evening Wear

Baguettes and Hofdudes, here are picks 21 through 30 of the top forty Duchess of Cambridge ensembles. I think we have chosen a beautiful array of fabrics and styles – even a couple of cocktail dresses made the cut. The more daring (hello “bandage dress”) and the purely pretty sparklers are represented. Bravo all! This week is her maternity wear, so get your picks ready.

Brunei

Princess Fadzilah of Brunei was married last week, and as we have discussed before the wedding ensembles for Brunei are beyond elaborate. The ten day celebration is something to behold, so make sure you click the link. According to Tiara Mania, the tiara may be a family tiara, with some added (!) diamonds along the top.

Our Baguette Wendy was cruising the interwebs and happened on this Youtube video, a retrospective of Queen Maxima’s fashion year. It’s definitely worth your time for the up-close view of the royal jewels and the details on some of the gala dresses. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVHGxtsZnYI

Oh, so much was going on here at the end of last week that we missed the lovely Queen Mathilde’s 49th birthday. Happy belated birthday to you, Madame. Your new photo is just lovely.

I chose a few of my favorite Mathilde looks to honor the occasion. Next year, on her fiftieth, we’ll do it up right and feature more on her!

Denmark

Denmark was absolutely bustling last week. Although many of Queen Margrethe’s 50th Jubilee events were postponed to spring, the opening of “A Queen’s Jewelry Box – 50 Years on the Throne Told in Jewelry”, was held last week. The live feed was still available as of Sunday, so take a look at close-ups of Daisy’s Horseshoe and Daisy brooches, and the Pearl Poire, Baden Palmette, and Floral Aigrette tiaras:

If you visit the Style of Mary blog, you will get a breakdown of the ensembles worn by the principals here. I was fascinated to learn that Mary’s brooch was a design by Georg Jensen. The inspiration for the design was the Queen’s quote, “God’s help, the love of the people, Denmark’s strength.” Daisy has the commemorative edition, while Mary’s is plain gold.

Meanwhile, Crown Princess Mary visited the exhibition set up for her own postponed 50th birthday celebrations. The sweater/midi/boot combination is so Mary to my eyes: stylishly put together and warm! The vest is by Mark Kenly Domino Tan, the blouse by Zara, and the boots by Aquazzura.

Prince Nikolai continues to forge a stellar career for himself, making the cover of Vogue Scandinavia for Feb/Mar.

Let’s just end with our Classic Princess Benedikte looking utterly stylish, as she always does. I mean, look at the brooch placement. Young ‘uns, eat your heart out.
