Hofdame Bits and Bobs

The royal world has experienced a seismic shift and everything is different from last week. The next two weeks have been designated as the mourning period for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. However, we also have some happy news in this week’s Bits.

Any news/information or discussion related to the events around Queen Elizabeth’s death can be discussed in our Holyrood and St. Giles post, which is stickied here.

To catch up on the sparkling news from Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee events, see here.

As expected, most of Getty is devoted to the death of Queen Elizabeth and the accession of King Charles III. See it here.

We didn’t have time to cover much of Queen Maxima’s trip to the U.S., but she looked very good throughout her jaunt through California and Texas. She visited the Q2 stadium in Austin – probably one of the few visitors ever to wear a giant raspberry leaf pearl brooch, gobstopper pearl drop earrings, and and a giant satin bow.

Sweden’s King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia dropped by a recognition event for the World Scout Foundation and were joined by the Hereditary Grand Duke and Duchess. Silvia wore her Nina Ricci gown and it seems Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie wore an Emporio Armani dress.

Monaco

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene attended a mass of commemoration for Queen Elizabeth in Monaco. Charlene’s dress is by Akris, a brand she has returned to lately with good results.

The wedding of Maria Laura of Belgium, daughter of Princess Astrid and niece of King Philippe, was held last Saturday. For the civil wedding the bride – channeling some late sixties high fashion – wore a chic Prada dress and some beautiful diamond danglers, and a high bun that might have been inspired by her maternal grandmother’s hairstyles from that era.

Queen Mathilde and King Philippe attended the ceremony, and the Queen wore a repeated red Natan.

For the religious ceremony Princess Maria Laura wore a Vivienne Westwood gown and the Savoy Aosta Tiara, which secured the family veil worn previously by Queen Paola, Queen Mathilde, and Princess Claire. The small attendants wore mustard lace embellished dresses, and the adults were in multi-color prints. You will see the print theme carried through by the guests in a big way.

King Philippe and his family were there. The Queen wore an enormous repeated hat and a new Natan dress, Princess Elisabeth is in very dramatic Carolina Herrera red, and Princess Eleanore wore a repeated More Couture dress.

Princess Astrid did NOT go subtle! She wore a head-to-toe Gucci ensemble that was a commitment to COLOR and STATEMENT. You want embellishment? Well, there are crystals, lace, and feathers on offer here.

Have we mentioned that Princess Delphine is an artist in her own right? Knowing that, I don’t think you will be surprised at her choices here.

It is always good to see Queen Paola and King Albert. The Queen celebrated her 85th birthday the next day.

Prince Laurent and Princess Claire were perfectly in sync with the brilliant color on display – Claire wore a patterned Natan dress, and she, too, added an enormous hat. Their daughter, Princess Louise, wore a bright and bold pink.

Look who popped up!! Prince Felix and Princess Claire of Luxembourg were there! The Princess wore an Etoile Isabel Marant dress.

It was a very windy day, so let’s just enjoy sophisticated wedding guests anchoring their chapeaus in any way possible. We need lighthearted diversions and this is certainly that.
