Housekeeping Note: There have been some vile things written about royals – in particular, the Duchess of Sussex – in the mainstream press lately. Per our policy, we won’t discuss it here but it seems to be a good to time to restate our mantra: misogyny and racism are absolutely unacceptable. Anything related to it will be removed from our comments immediately.
This is our very last Bits post of 2022. It’s probably my old age talking, but this year absolutely flew by. The resumption of most royal schedules probably had a lot to do with it.
Next week the Hofdames are off, so there will be no Bits on Monday. This one will remain open for two weeks. For the week between Christmas and New Year (12/26 – 12/30), there will be a series of really interesting guest posts, including a visit to the Cartier exhibition, some coronation build-up posts, and a really deep dive on Princess Sofia’s Wedding Palmette tiara. We will also pop in – quickly, with an Open Post – if there are any Christmas appearances.
Friday, December 30, we will be voting on our 2022 Royal Sartorial Superstar, so get your thoughts in order! In the meantime, enjoy the season. No matter what holiday you celebrate, or don’t, the Hofdames wish you an excellent end of year!
News Round Up
Prince Carl Philip is in fatigues, Crown Princess Kiko is in a kimono, and Monaco is covered in Christmas trees. See the royal news at Getty!
Bhutan
It seems like a very long time since we checked in with this family. You’ll be glad to know that everyone is still beautiful and the fabrics still glow.
The Kingdom of Bhutan celebrated the 115th National Day on December 17, 2022. King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Queen Jetsun Pema and their two children, and other members of the royal family attended the celebrations that took place at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu. pic.twitter.com/nT34auKMOq

Jordan
Queen Rania joined in the holiday spirit at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The Queen is repeating her Agnona coat (first worn in 2016). Hit up the Queen Rania style blog for all the details.

Spain
Queen Letizia has leaned hard into the grey and black color scheme here. She was all-business for a FAD member board meeting, and since she is the president, it all makes sense. She repeated her Carolina Herrera coat and Adolfo Dominguez dress (H/T to our Iselen for the intel)!
The Netherlands
Queen Maxima took a very different approach to her board meeting (MIND Us). I suppose a purple from head-to-toe ensemble would enliven any dull business meeting!

Sweden
Ok, Brooch babes! We have two Classic Queens wearing brooches here so drink it up. First up, Queen Silvia at a fundraiser for her Chrildren’s charity, wearing a sparkly top and a sparkly pin! A brooch and trouser event, a rarity.
Denmark
We know Queen Daisy just loves Christmas. The Danish digital advent calendar has continued, and two new entries are particularly fun. The royal teenagers take a walk through Copenhagen, solidifying my desire for a visit to that city during Christmas. The Queen lights the last of the candles on the advent wreath, a tradition said to be introduced to Denmark by Queen Alexandrine.
Let’s leave with some Princess Benedikte, watching the St. Lucia procession and attending a Christmas concert.
