Hofdame Bits and Bobs

Hofdame Note: The Belgian royals are wrapping up their State Visit to South Africa and flying home today. The Queen wore a terrific dress for the cocktail reception at the Zeitz Museum. Head back to the post (Day Four) to see it!

It’s a week of uncertainty. When will we hear more coronation news? Will the British state visit to Germany continue? Will the weather in the Handbag’s neighborhood ever warm up? However, there are a few royal events to keep us entertained while we wait for the answers to these pressing questions.

Luxembourg

Big announcement! Big news! Chuck de Lux has a baby brother. Congratulations to the whole family and welcome to François Henri Luis Marie Guillaume.

Britain

This is just such a lovely gesture. The Princess of Wales was presented with a painting to honor her new role with the Irish Guards. They couldn’t have picked a better gift, given her art history background.

Here’s some royal-adjacent news. Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones is celebrating her 21st birthday, and Tatler has a feature and some photos of her in their latest issue. If you have been missing Serena Armstrong-Jones, you will be glad to see her doppelganger on the scene.

The cover photo is striking, but this photo from inside the magazine really captured my attention.

Monaco

The Rose Ball was held this past weekend, and you know what that means. Lots of Chanel and a little weirdness mixed in.. Bollywood was the theme this year, and as usual, the Monacos all piled in the station wagon and drove down to the Salle des Etoiles to support each other.

The ball is primarily Princess Caroline’s gig, but Prince Albert always turns up to help his sister out (Albert LOVES to socialize, as we know!). Caroline was in Chanel, as usual.

Ah, young Princess Alexandra has grown up and has a handsome boyfriend, too. As of the time I type this, the designer of her black halter dress is TBD. I question whether she has ever seen a Bollywood movie, though.

Charlotte Casiraghi is also in Chanel, which makes sense because they are her employer. I don’t see too much Bollywood influence here but feathers at the hem do channel her own mother, who has worn similar things.

Of course, OF COURSE, Beatrice Casiraghi takes a different route, pulling out a gown from her favorite design house, Dior. I have no word on her headpiece, but she did roll in, looking like a glamorous Medusa. Also, she is the person closest to the ball’s theme.

Tatiana Casiraghi looked pretty in Jenny Packham, with her sequins a nod to the theme although she lacks the total commitment of Beatrice. Sometimes you just want to look good!

Princess Charlene hasn’t attended the ball in years, but she was out and about last week with Prince Albert (the man who goes everywhere). That’s an Akris gown with one of her favorite features, the mock turtleneck.

Netherlands

Well hello Laurentien and Eloise! They are on vacation in Tokyo and snapping selfies like tourists everywhere do. Yes, that is either a bathroom or locker room, but it is also a chance to see Laurentien looking great and sporting a scarf I would love to own.

We’ll end with Princess Beatrix, a classic Princess who does not snap selfies in bathrooms, at least not for public consumption.
