Open Post – Norway’s National Day (Updated)

After two years of subdued celebrations, today’s Norwegian National Day is expected to be a real party. Norwegians have historically turned up in great numbers to celebrate the anniversary of their constitution. This was a pivotal event in Norwegian history.

There are celebrations all over the country, but we are focused on the Royal Family in Oslo. If you want more information on the festivities, this is a great little article.

There was traditional dress galore, including Princess Ingrid Alexandra in her confirmation bunad, when the royals appeared at the children’s parade at Skaugum. Well, maybe Sverre Magnus isn’t so traditional, but at least he gave it a nod.

The extended family appeared on the balcony at the Royal Castle, sans bunads. I will say the addition of the top hats gets an A+ vote from me. Heaven at UFONoMore has been on the case and says Mette-Marit is wearing a Max Mara coat, and Ingrid Alexandra is wearing a coat borrowed from her mother. She also wore it at her birthday celebrations.
