Open Post – Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s Birthday Gala!

Note: While we are impatiently cooling our heels this morning waiting for this historic event to start, don’t forget the Open Post is available for your Ascot Day Four comments. The Cambridges are there today which always ups the excitement level.

Tonight their Majesties The King and Queen of Norway will host a gala dinner at the Royal Palace to celebrate the 18th birthday of their granddaughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra. Do you have your tiara predictions in? If not, head back to yesterday’s post before the polls close down today at 10:00 a.m. ET!

OK deep breath! We are headed into one of the most exciting royal events we’ve had since the Japanese enthronement.

Coverage on NRK in Norway starts at 7:40 p.m. local time and the gala begins at 8:00 p.m. Royal guests will arrive tomorrow afternoon and official guests (members of organizations, ambassadors, government officials, other family and friends, etc,) will arrive between 7:10-7:40 local time/1:10-1:40 PM Eastern US. Things will officially kick off at 8 PM local/2 PM Eastern US. (H/T to Baguette Ween).

The Guest of Honor

Her Royal Highness Princess Ingrid Alexandra

The Royal Court has released official portraits for the occasion – our tiara speculation is over! She is wearing (and will wear tonight) the Boucheron Circlet Pearl Tiara. The always comprehensive Royal Watcher blog has many, many photos of this tiara’s travels from Ingrid Alexandra’s great-great-grandmother Princess Ingeborg to the present day.

(H/T to ALL our European Baguettes who sent us these photos while we slept ; ), Triple A, Triple Duchess included!) The Norwegian Court has said that Princess Ingrid Alexandra will wear the Boucheron Circlet Pearl tiara for tonight’s gala dinner. Princess Astrid – her great aunt – said “It means a great deal to me that the tiara has now been given to Princess Ingrid Alexandra. Princess Ragnhild wanted her to have Grandmother’s tiara”.

The Norwegian Royal Court has an entry on the official history of the tiara.

As a modern Queen-in-Training she is modeling sustainable fashion by wearing a dress previously worn by her mother during the British visit to Norway in 2001.
