Pocket Profile – Princess Angela of Liechtenstein

Of all the requests we have for Pocket Profiles, Princess Angela is the most popular. A woman of mystery and a stylish one, to boot. You really can’t beat that combo.

Angela Gisela Brown was born in Panama, in 1958. Her parents were Javier Francisco Brown and Silvia Maritza Burke. She moved to New York City for high school, and graduated from Parsons School of Design. During her time there, she received the Oscar de la Renta Golden Thimble award. Among her professional accomplishments was a stint at Adrienne Vittadini, as Creative Director, and establishing her own label, A. Brown.

In 1999, it was announced that Angela was engaged to Prince Maximilian of Liechtenstein, the second son of Prince Hans-Adam and Princess Marie. The royal family of Liechtenstein run an asset management compay, which has made them extremely wealthy, and they are also extremely private. The wedding, held in 2000, was relatively low key. Although I can’t find much information about the dress, it was said that Angela designed it. She wore the popular family tiara, the Kinsky Honeysuckle.

The gown does bear a passing resemblence to Meghan Markle’s gown, but I tend to think that the Duchess of Sussex was not necessarily “nodding” to the Princess. It’s probably it was simply a case of two women with similar tastes.

The couple had a son, Alfons, and have continued to lead relatively private lives, although they have been seen at National Day and other national events from time to time. It’s a pity from the standpoint that we don’t see much of the Princess’ personal style, but everyone is entitled to the lives they want to lead. We will have to content ourselves with short glimpses of her from time to time.
