Elizabeth II is shown below photographed upon her return to London from Kenya on February 7, 1952. She had been Queen for two days. Her father, King George VI, died during the night of February 5th-6th.
This anniversary is not a day of complete joy for the monarch personally, but we think we should take a moment to acknowledge that it was the start of a momentous, historic career.
