Random Royal Rotogravure(s) – The Wedding of Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby

It’s been twenty years since this wedding, which took place on August 25, 2001, in Oslo Cathedral. As most royal watchers know, the road to the ceremony was not without its bumps. Mette-Marit’s youth and young adulthood were unconventional for a royal bride (although not so unconventional for a young person of her time). Haakon was adamant that she was the one, and the rest is history.

We’ve covered the bride’s dress extensively around here, so let’s take a look at the rest of the wedding guests. It was a fine, sunny few days in Oslo and there were some great outfits on display. We’ll start you off, but please share your own favorites in the comments.

Wedding Day

Ah! The wedding day itself. More gowns, just a little amped up. Also a “wear-em-if-ya-got-em” tiara day.

The family of the groom. Queen Sonja has never shied away from color. The groom’s sister wore an ensemble I have forgotten but how that happened I do not know ; ).
