Random Royaling – Swedish Royals at the Opening of Parliament

We call it Sweden’s Black and White Day around here because that’s what the royal women wear for the opening of Sweden’s Parliament. Traditionally, the royal family will attend a church service, and then embark on a horse-drawn ride from the Royal Palace to the Riksdag.

The Queen wore a black suit and a white hat, accessorizing with the “official royal pearl-drop” brooch, a style which every royal house seems to own (H/T to Baguette cgreen for that name).

The Crown Princess wore her Milly Marzia Bow jacket with white detailing over one of her simple black dresses. She wore her Kreuger Pearl earrings. To say these are her go-to earrings is an understatement.

Princess Sofia also wore black separates, coordinating her Daisy Grace jacket with a black skirt. She topped it off with a Dolce & Gabbana crystal headband.

We’ve mentioned this before, but it always bears repeating. These outfits are a reflection of the old, traditional Swedish court dress, which has not been worn to this event in many years. Since we always love a glimpse of it, below is Princess Sybilla in full court regalia – with the Connaught tiara – and a photo of her daughter Christina in the same court style opening Parliament after her mother’s death.

Returning to 2022, the royal family – without the Queen, who had mild cold symptoms – attended a performance of the Stockholm Philharmonic in the evening after the opening. They retained the black and white theme (for the most part). Princess Sofia wore a “Tiger of Sweden” dress and the Crown Princess wore a repeated print midi by Valerie.
