The King and Queen Máxima received the Diplomatic Corps on Wednesday evening at a gala dinner in the Royal Palace Amsterdam. The event is a glittering gathering, and the venue is always something to look forward to since they roll out the “Starry Night” carpet. This year’s theme was politics and governance. Princess Beatrix and Princess Margriet were also in attendance.
This year the Queen treated us to another royal re-wear! She repeated a Jan Taminiau gown that was first seen at Prinsjesdag 2009. She paired it with pieces from the Mellerio Ruby parure: the tiara and diamond necklace with the fabulous clasp. (Max has had a run of fabulous necklaces and clasps this week.)
We got a glimpse of the Queen from overhead and from behind (so you can see the updo). ModekoninginMaxima has the history of the Mellerio Ruby parure (and lots of photos of previous wearings).

The “cat-ear” tiara up close. I still love it, though!
The dress during its hatted debut, in 2009.
Here’s our glimpse of Princess Beatrix, wearing a dress thought to be by Theresia Vreugdenhil and that was possibly made from fabric picked up during her travels. She is wearing the Pearl Button Tiara, which apparently was never put back in its case after Friday’s debut on Princess Amalia’s head (in the star formation).

During the Dutch State Visit to Oman, back in 2012 when Beatrix was still Queen Beatrix and Max was a princess, both royal women wore the same dresses as they did last night. During that event, the Mellerio tiara was on Oma’s head and Max sported the Peacock tiara. In the deep Dutch vault, not to mention their extensive wardrobes, all kinds of combinations are possible.
The Tamaniau dress seems to photograph as a different color depending on the light, so again imagination is important. Who knows what color it is in person?
A two-tiara appearance calls for a two-poll post.
