So we begin the season of National Days under Covid. You just knew Belgium’s would include Mathilde’s matching masks, didn’t you?
I will give the Belgians credit, they still packed a lot of activities into the day (or two, since the concert was a couple of days ago). Let’s start at the beginning, which as Julie Andrews would tell you, is a VERY good place to start.
The entire family attended the Te Deum Mass at the Saint Michael and Saint Gudula Cathedral in Brussels. Tils is in Natan, and she matched her mask to her hat. Elisabeth is in Natan, as well, matching her mask to her dress. The hats are by Fabienne Delvigne. Eleonore is wearing a dress previously worn by Elisabeth in 2015. For more photos, the always reliable Modekoningin Mathilde has you covered. Of course, Royals Hats is on the case with all you want to know about the headgear!
Tils changed dress, hat and mask to Dries Van Noten for the parade-that-wasn’t. Instead the family commemorated the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII and saluted heroes of the COVID19 response teams.
Astrid, Laurent and Lorenz also attended the commemorative events. Astrid is firing on two cylinders, rather than her usual full-out four, and it works for her. Other than her wowza earrings and that pop of color in the shoes and handbag, she is entirely restrained.
The family then made a stop at several residential care facilities, which has been the focus of their quarantine activities. I can’t tell you how much that warms my cold avocado pit of a heart (though probably not nearly as much as it warms the residents themselves). Mathilde is wearing a silk chiffon dress by Giambattista Valli. Elisabeth wore a new dress by LK Bennett and Eleonore wore a Diane Von Furstenberg eyelet dress.
