NInety-nine percent of the time that some media outlet trumpets, “Royal XXX channels Royal YYY in an outfit designed by ZZZZ” I roll my eyes so hard that they are scanning the back of my skull. Yesterday, however….
Okay, I cannot be the only person who saw Catherine’s new Alexander McQueen lace dress and also thought of Her Majesty’s iconic white lace dress she wore at a garden party in Australia in 1954? #RoyalTourCaribbean #QueenElizabethII #DuchessOfCambridge pic.twitter.com/gy862NWdFw

Maybe the original *was* was an inspiration.
On their last day in Jamaica, the Duke and Duchess were guests of honor at the Commissioning Parade for service personnel who have recently completed the Caribbean Military Academy’s Officer Training Programme. The Duchess of Cambridge wore an Alexander McQueen lace dress and Philip Treacy chapeau, and Prince William wore the tropical No. 1 uniform of the Blues and Royals.
Someone on the Duchess’s team had to think back to that Australian outfit on HerMaj, at least briefly. The Duke and Duchess were driven in the ceremonial Land Rover used by HM and Prince Philip in 1962. The Duchess also wore a pair of earrings on loan from the Queen.
The Duchess finished off her outfit with a three-strand pearl bracelet worn by Diana, an Anya Hindmarch clutch, and a pair of Emmy London pumps.
