It will be a busy week here at the Bag, and our schedule has shifted a little. Bits is ready to go tomorrow morning. Tuesday is the State Visit of the Emir of Qatar His Highness Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani (Sheikha Moza’s son) and his wife Jawaher Bint Hamad Bin Suhaim Al Thani to Spain. There should be tiaras in the evening, so we hope to cover that event on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will appear at the Top Gun Sequel premiere, and we’ll have an Open Post for you all to enjoy.
The Royal Windsor Horse Show, which ran from Thursday to Sunday, brought out the British royals in force. This includes a couple of very cheerful appearances by the Queen. The show is said to be a favorite event of the Queen’s and knowing her interest in all things horsey, it makes sense. The rest of the show was the Wessex hour, with the star being Lady Louise.
Thursday
In a sentimental appearance, Lady Louise drove her late grandfather’s carriage at the Charity Preview for “A Gallop Through History” Platinum Jubilee celebration on Thursday night.
Friday
For three days of the events, Louise wore her carriage-driving go-to the Gamebirds Clothing Fieldfare Fitted Jacket. It made its first appearance last year, in 2021.
She was joined by the family group in the stands, including her parents, grandmother, and family friend Penelope Knatchbull, Countess Mountbatten. Sophie wore her ME & EM blazer, complementing her daughter’s green jacket.
It’s nice to know proud mums are the same the world over
I don’t think we – or anyone – needs to worry about Her Majesty. She was in great spirits throughout the proceedings. Her horse, ‘Balmoral Leia’ won the ‘Horse & Hound Mountain & Moorland Supreme In Hand Championship’ so that no doubt lifted her mood.
For the evening event, the Countess of Wessex changed into a Suzannah velvet dress, which is for some inexplicable reason called the “Grandad” dress. She accessorized with one her favorite necklaces, the Palmiero diamond open work piece.
Saturday
On Saturday the Wessexes appeared en famille again. Sophie kept her ME & EM blazer, but swapped out her trousers for a Mis Mosh blouse and loafers. Lady Louise wore a White Spot printed blouse and borrowed a Hayfield England fedora from her mother.
Sunday
On Sunday, Louise took part in the ‘Champagne Laurent-Perrier Meet of The British Driving Society’. We are able to get an up-close view of her brooches here. Equestrian-themed, natch! She wore the buggy whip pin to Prince Philip’s memorial as well.
Sophie seems to be on a bit of a navy velvet streak here, and I am not complaining. She wore a high necked Laurie & Jules jacket with pewter buttons and pleated details. She paired it with her very-much-worn Christian Dior “huggie hoop” earrings. (And it appears Sophie does a bit of carriage driving herself. Who knew?)
The Queen appeared again in the evening, wearing a soft grey evening wrap sprinked crystal embellishments. The Countess of Wessex – who didn’t miss an event – was there as well. We don’t have the greatest photos, but I do believe her velvet streak continues with a pair of deep plum evening trousers.
Speaking of Queens, here is Queen Elizabeth I aka Helen Mirren, performing.
