I would insert a bad mother-in-law joke here, but it would hardly apply because I think both these women have forged admirable and admiring relationships with their formidable mother-in-laws.
Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, and Sophie, The Countess of Wessex, had a dual engagement and both looked *good*. They appeared on behalf of the Jubilee Trust, an organization that “… helped 22 MILLION people in Africa to combat trachoma, a common form of blindness,” according to Emily Andrews on Twitter.
I think that counts as success all around.
I love the detail of Sophie’s tulip-shaped skirt. The Queen can wear that Sapphire Chrysanthemum brooch all she wants, particularly with that zhuzzed up sparkly dress. Here is the OoS entry for the brooch.
In this speech, the Countess calls HerMaj "mama" and I don't know, guys, something about it just teared me up.
The Countess of Wessex gave a lovely speech tonight in which she called the Queen ‘mama’ and said: I feel in a way that I have been your eyes, having travelled to Malawi, Bangladesh and India to see the work of the Trust first-hand.... pic.twitter.com/IykbCqIgIX

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary appeared with Queen Margrethe at a concert for the Unity of the Realm, which included representatives from Greenland, the Faroes and Denmark. Don't you wonder if the two women had a conversation before the event? "I'll wear my ruffles if you wear yours!"
I do like Mary's dress from a distance, something about the long unadorned span from the neck down mitigates the ruffliness, and Daisy can wear and do what she wants. She doesn't need input from me. I am more intrigued with her sparkly wrap than her dress.
Speaking of sartorial nods (were we? pretend we were), Fred wore a jacket from Henrik's closet while taking over one of his late father's patronages. Nice, Fred.
Family matters, sartorially and otherwise, right?
