Royal Re-Wear – Queen Letizia and Felipe Varela

Queen Letizia appeared at the Royal Academy of Engineering yesterday wearing a familiar Felipe Varela. This black and white embroidered dress has a fit and flare silhouette. It features a small mandarin collar, black embellishments, and a beaded waistband.

The Queen previously wore it at a slightly more formal occasion, the Princess of Asturias Awards in 2017. For some reason, the previous outing of the skirt seemed fuller, however, it’s possible it’s simply a trick of photography or the Queen wore an undergarment that enhanced the volume.

Her hair at this event was particularly good: a low updo-braid, which gave her a very Spanish effect.

If the retro effect of the dress is not for you, but you like the color scheme, rest assured Varela has designed many black and white ensembles for the Queen, and they show up again and again. There’s bound to be one you enjoy.
