This Natan coat is driving me mad because I think I might like it, and when Natan does something right, I like to give credit where credit is due. I can’t tell though, because although it has been worn numerous times by various royals, it’s never been worn in a way that I can give it a proper evaluation.

Queen Maxima April 2022
Yesterday the Queen and King visited the Duin- en Bollenstreek region. The couple had a series of events during a very long day, and Max managed to remain fresh looking in shades of navy, including an Oscar de la Renta dress, the Natan coat, and a pair of Gianvito Rossi pumps. The wind and the tendency of Max to drape a coat over her shoulders means that we don’t get much of a view of either the dress or coat. (I really want to see the dress, which has major potential).
If the coat isn’t doing it for you, perhaps you want to detour to the gob-stopping gems and King Wax’s “tulip tie”? Photos courtesy of friend of the blog, Gert-Jan, through our lovely Hofdude Triple-A. Gert-Jan’s incredible work can be seen here! (Please do not reproduce these elsewhere).

Queen Maxima February 2022
You can’t tell me that you don’t remember this ensemble, although the coat is probably the last thing that would stick in your mind. Max appeared at two events promoting inclusive finance, something she does frequently in her role as UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development. She always dresses a little jauntier for these events (I’m sorry, I struggled for a word to describe the green skirt, and jaunty was the best I could do). More draping here, and in this case I wish the coat was completely on and secured completely closed somehow.
Amalia, Princess of Orange, December 2021
I want to know if Amalia “pre-borrowed” this from her mother’s closet for her introduction to the Council of State. It appears Max hadn’t had a chance to wear it in public before her daughter went the all blue route, including her mother’s coat. Amalia paired it with the Naomi Dress by LaDress in Mille Fleur Gold Navy, which is really a pretty and floaty piece if I say so myself. However, once again, the coat appeared to have been thrown on as a last-minute thought, so it’s not displayed at its best.
Queen Mathilde February 2022
Tils wore the same coat in the same color for a February 2022 visit to Kask & Conservatorium School of Arts Gent. Again, it’s over her shoulders, so a proper look-see isn’t possible. However, you get a slightly better idea of the possibilities here. We covered this appearance before but at the time most of us were distracted by the check Natan trouser suit and the coat simply disappeared.
Do you understand my frustration here? We finally get a Natan piece that could inspire some love in me and I have yet to actually see it in action.
