Ah…. The 2012 Olympics. A royal watchers dream. All of the stars aligned that year, didn’t they? 2012 was first and foremost Her Majesty’s 60th year on the throne, so London was already “happening” to begin with. Then we had the barely married a year Cambridges who, along with Harry, had been named the official “British Royal Family Everything Olympics Related Committee.” Toss in the rest of the British royals, along with all of the Euro royals hopping back and forth between home and London to cheer on their countrymen and women as they vied for medals, and it was non-stop, royal overload. And as if that wasn’t enough, the Paralympic Games started a mere 17 days after the others had finished, and we got to do it all over again! Let’s take a look back at some of our favorite moments from the greatest “Royals At The Olympics” showing ever.
There is NO WAY this could be left out of our recap. I don’t know about you, but I was so shocked, and so thrilled that she had agreed to do this. This QEII was certainly not the QEII of my youth!
More from the Opening Ceremonies. Not a lot of royals came in early, but a few did.
Everyone was in team colors and having a great time. I so enjoy it when Daniel and Carl-Philip take their Bromance on the road.
Wax showed off his flower catching skills and the ladies in his life were mightily impressed.
I can’t believe Getty didn’t have THE PICTURE. You guys know which one I’m talking about. I want to see it in the comments!
This was most likely the very first time we got to see “The Many Faces Of Kate.” This girl is INTO sports. LOL I hope she had plenty of antacids in her pocket.
A fantastic showing from the entire BRF. This was their moment, and they took every advantage to cheer on their athletes.
I don’t know about you, but I think it’s safe to say that Zara was the real star of the family over those two weeks. She got to carry the Olympic Torch back in May, her team wins the Silver Medal, her mom is the one who presents it to them, and her family is in the stands for the whole event! Talk about living the dream!
And now we get to do it all over again for the Paralympics! Sophie and Edward took the lead for this event, although they were obviously helped out by the rest of the family as well.
More faces, more fun!
Although the foreign royals were few for this go around, Daniel, Margriet, Elena and Martha-Louise were on hand to cheer their teams on.
And while these next photos aren’t technically from the Olympics, they were either events held for the Olympics, or during the Olympics, so they count in my book.
So what are your favorite memories from London 2012? Were you one of the many who woke up at the crack of dawn, (or perhaps burnt the midnight oil?) to see as much royalty as humanly possible in real time? Share your stories and your favorite photos in the comments!
