Well hello there—it’s about that time again! Today’s featured color of the ROYGBIV series is Violet, but for us regular folks, we’ll just call it purple for now. Feel free to get comfy and review our other ROYGBIV discussions–click back and review Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, and Blue/Indigo. If you’re new to the site, there are also corresponding posts in the ROYGBIV-Jewels portions of the program!

It seems that I’ve been leading off with Sweden lately, and today will be no different. First off we have Victoria at Oma’s going away party back in 2013 (side note–six years already!) in this deeply saturated gown.
Indulge me when I post the original styling at the 2009 Nobels, which I MUCH prefer. It just goes to show the same dress with different accoutrement is a different being.
Silvia wore this gown to a Scandanavian gala in New York back in 2011. I’m not drawn to the purple as much as the cut of the bodice here. I don’t remember her wearing a lot of that shape (plus bonus Big Bird sighting in the slideshow).
Christina wore this simple but lovely silhouette to Leonore’s christening.
Princess Anna of Bavaria looked like a million bucks at Sweden #3’s wedding back in 2013. My only quibble is her necklace, but we’ll let it slide.
Anne Marie wore this gown for her sister’s 40th anniversary of accession party back in 2012. One of her finer gala appearances, in my opinion.
For those with lace fatigue, avert your gaze. Daisy’s eggplant gown with lace overlay was most recently seen at sister Benedikte’s birthday party in April 2019.
And who can forget her costume at Mr. & Mrs. Sweden’s 25th Anniversary party?
Margareta wore this delightful ensemble in Bucharest in 2017. I think it flatters her immensely.
Sophia has worn this gorgeous suit with just the right touch of whimsy a few times. It really is a spectacular suit.
Letizia wowed us when Peru came to visit in 2019 in a repeated ballgown.
Sonja is never one to shy away from a ruffle.
Mette Marit wore this chic outfit when Singapore came to visit in 2016.
And Martha Louise wore a traditional ballgown at Sweden #3’s wedding.
Haya looking simply gorgeous in this beautiful (what appears to be a) caftan.
Despite my general dislike of Mathilde’s multiple vertical pleats, this floaty gown was super flattering on her when Australia came to visit.
With Elizabeth and the purple, simple wins the day for me.
Diana wore this fantastic suit to perfection. So smart.
Beatrice wore a deeper shade at the 2018 Met Gala “Heavenly Bodies”.
Britain’s final entry is Betty Senior, shown here at the 1985 Epsom Derby.
Máxima wore this statement gown in Singapore back in 2013.
Sumptious fabric–check. Questionable shoes–check. Subtle, giant diamonds–check. All hail my favorite lady Oma!
And although it’s bordering on burgundy, I want to give a special nod to her abdication outfit, because Miss Lady looked fantastic as she signed things over to Wax.
Do you like any of these garments? Would you want to see any of them again?
OK, friends! Have at it! Show us your preferred purples in the comments!
Don’t despair–ROYGBIV lives on next week with Violet Jewels, and then we will branch out into other colors such as pink, silver & gray, gold, black, white, black & white, florals, and possibly even plaid. Get to researching!
