This weekend the Vasaloppet cross country ski race was held in Sweden. The race is held on the first Sunday in March, and is the oldest cross country ski race in the world. The 90 km (56mi) course starts in the village of Sälen and ends in the town of Mora in northwestern Dalarna, Sweden .

This year Prince Carl Philip of Sweden was one of the participants.

Det här året kör prins Carl Philip Vasaloppet – något som kung Carl Gustaf gjorde 1977. ⬇️ Kungen har kört Öppet spår två gånger efter det tillfället, och prins Carl Philip har kört både Öppet spår och Skejtvasan. Förra veckan körde prinsessan Sofia Tjejvasan. ⬇️ Men nu är det alltså dags igen för en medlem i kungafamiljen att försöka ta sig an Vasaloppet. – Det är ju en tradition i kungafamiljen att vara med i det här loppet. Det finns ett skidintresse, säger kommentatorn Jacob Hård i SVT. – De är duktiga på att åka också, inflikade expertkollegan Anders Blomquist. —————————————— Foto: HENRIK HANSSON / TT —————————————— Today, Prince Carl Philip of Sweden participated in the skiing contest Vasaloppet – an annual long distance cross-country ski race held on the first Sunday of March. ⬇️ It is the oldest cross-country ski race in the world, as well as the one with the highest number of participants. ⬇️ The race was inspired by a famous journey made by King Gustav Vasa when he was fleeing from Christian II's soldiers in 1520. And now the modern royal family is doing the same route as their predecessor.

CP isn’t the only royal, or royal adjacent person to complete the race; King Carl XVI Gustaf has done the race three times.
