Ten Best for the Tenth Anniversary – Pre-Wedding Gala Gowns

Today, as we continue our look back at Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling’s wedding, we’ll be featuring 10 of the best gowns worn to the pre-wedding gala. There were a lot of gorgeous ones to choose from, but I narrowed it down to these, which are in no particular order. Except for Number One, of course.

First up we have Old School Royal Style. Queens Margrethe, Beatrix and Sonja. There’s some serious, Grade A queening going on here.

Princess Madeleine in her pretty icy blue/grey gown. She would wear it again to the 2012 Nobel Prize ceremonies with the amethyst tiara.

You have to include the mother of the bride, right? Classic Queen Silvia.

Another royal bringing us some Old School glam. This gown is fun, and a bit different for Princess Benedikte. Very lovely.

CP Mette-Marit brought her customary floof to the party, and I think the more minimally adorned bodice helped to keep it all from being too overwhelming. Add in the 1930s inspired hair and she easily makes the list.

There is no way CP Mary could ever be left off of a best dressed list. The color’s a tad blah, but she is radiant. She was about three months pregnant with the twins here, so she has amazed me yet again. And look at that smile for WAX.

The evening’s Lady In Red award goes to the then Princess Letizia. Wowzers! It loses a bit when you see it head on, due to a rather awkward slit and an unfortunate choice of shoe, but when we get her from the side or the back? ¡Perfección!

The former Princess Maxima brought the flirty fun. I love this swishy, floral, tiered gown, even with the waist poof. It looks especially fun with her choice of hairstyle. I wonder if she and M-M planned it?

Princess Martha- Louise looked great in this simple lilac gown. I wish they had taken more photos of her so we could see it from various angles, but it seems very pretty.

And while the other nine are in no particular order, there was only one obvious choice for Number One. CP Victoria owned all of the pre-wedding and wedding events from start to finish. The cupid’s arrow in her updo alone sealed the deal, and this GORGEOUS Elie Saab didn’t hurt any either. The only misfire for me are the earrings, as I’m not a huge fan of those epaulets on anyone. But ’tis naught but a minor quibble overall.
