Thirty Years Down, 60 Days-ish To Go

The reign of Emperor Akihito is winding down. In roughly two months time he’ll be handing the keys over to his son, and riding off into the sunset for some much needed rest and relaxation with his lovely Empress. But until then he still has to do the royal stuff, like attending this shindig marking the 30th anniversary of his coronation, held this past Sunday at the National Theatre.

Others might think they’re dealing with official business in this last photo, but I’m positive that they actually snuck their vacation plans into the ceremony. “First we’ll sleep for a month. Then it’s off to Toyko Disneyland!” “Yes! I have the reservation confirmation right here. Breakfast with Mickey at 9 am! “
