Note: Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s birthday is being celebrated at two big events this week. Tonight there is a dinner hosted by government officials at Deichman Bjørvika in Oslo. Feel free to discuss that in this post! Tomorrow night (Friday) is the big gala. In the meantime, don’t forget the Open Post is available for your Ascot Day Three comments.
Tiara Predictions
The biggest royal event of the year is almost here (sorry Elizabeth II…the Jubilee was amazing, but tiaras…) and we have three confirmed new tiara wearers attending: the belated birthday girl herself, Ingrid Alexandra; Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands; and Elisabeth of Belgium.
We might even have one more…Princess Märtha Louise’s eldest daughter Maud is 19, and extended family tiara wearing has been a thing in the past.
So give us your best guesses for our three, maybe four, tiara debuts. I’ve gone ahead and started the guessing with my picks! The polls close at 10:00 AM, ET, on Friday.
Obviously, other tiara wearers will be in attendance (the mothers of all the aforementioned included) but there’s no way we can put together so many polls. Below is a list of possible royal tiara wearers. Put any of your additional picks in the comments. We’ll check back tomorrow to see if anyone has a perfect tiara card! And if anyone takes on the Bulgarians and predicts them properly my hat is off to you.
- Queen Sonja
- Crown Princess Mette Marit
- Princess Astrid
- Princess Martha Louise
- Maud Behn
- Crown Princess Mary of Denmark
- Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden
- Queen Maxima of the Netherlands
- Queen Mathilde of the Belgians
- Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie of Luxembourg
- Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece
- Princess Maria Olympia of Greece
- Katharine Butler (partner of Prince Kyril of Bulgaria)
- Princess Mafalda, Mrs. Abousleiman (daughter of Prince Kyril)
- Princess Olimpia (daughter of Prince Kyril)
- Rosario Nadal (Prince Kyril’s ex-wife and mother of Mafalda and Olimpia)
Although we don’t know if the children on the guest list will appear at the gala or just at activities earlier in the day, feel free to weigh in on whether Princess Estelle shows up in her sparkly headband!
Thursday Government Dinner
The family gathered before entering the event – the excitement is building, folks. There was a little brotherly ribbing going on, and a lot of parental/grandparental pride.
Queen Sonja is in a re-wear from her 80th birthday celebrations (aka the best birthday celebrations EVER). She accessorized with her standard pearl choker and my favorite King.
Behold this utterly gorgeous creature. She’s like a cloud wafting toward you – a Queen cloud.
The Crown Princess is in a repeat, a nice way to defer to the guest of honor. It’s very much in her wheelhouse, which is all I’ll say about it. Her hair is lovely, though.
Thanks to Heaven at UFONoMore, we have some early dress identifications!
I think Princess Ingrid Alexandra might be wearing a Monique Lhuillier gown with her mother’s Christian Louboutin pumps

Pink was a popular choice and it showed up on Princess Martha Louise, aunt of the birthday girl. This is a possible royal re-wear – a couple of eagle-eyed Baguettes thought it might be from Sonja.
See? Pink was the order of the day. Auntie Astrid showed up in a fuzzy pink jacket and well, you can’t help but love her.
