As we shut down the blog, it seems to be the right time for a Baguette and Hofdude clap-out. If you haven’t experienced a clap-out in real life, here is a definition, and here is a video of one in action. Our clap-out will be of a virtual variety, with a series of posts on various royal events we covered over the last five years. Even with a two-year pandemic break, there is plenty to talk about.
Let’s jump in with state visits first. It’s been quite a ride! (Note – this post is by no means a complete list, so add your favorite moments in the comments – and yes, you can even discuss events that happened before our blog. We did in our state visits by decade posts, which you can find here: fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties, aughts, and tens.)
If you don’t remember all the visits we covered, head to the archive page and scroll down to State Visits.
2019 UK/US State Visit
Everybody (almost) was wearing white during the U.S./U.K. State Visit in 2019! The big excitement was the reconfigured wedding tiara of the then Countess of Wessex. It was also, sadly, Her Majesty’s last State Visit, although not her last tiara outing. That occurred at the Diplomatic Reception in December 2019.
Our post on the US/UK visit is here.
2021 Dutch Norwegian State Visit
Visits between two constitutional monarchies are always big excitement in the royal world. When things opened up again in 2021, the Dutch royals visited Norway and we almost broke the internet. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a royal get together with more hilarity.

2022 Dutch/Swedish State Visit
It was a pinkfest during the banquet for this State Visit. A jewel fest, too, but what else would you expect from two such jewel loving monarchies?
The blog post from the visit is here.
2023 UK/South African State Visit
The first state visit to the U.K. after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II was from South Africa. It was here that we learned that Queen Camilla was not afraid to break into the vault, and mercy did she ever make a spectacular tiara debut. The King was not overshadowed – it was here that we discovered his lovely set of emerald buttons. You can see the post here.
