On 30 April 2013, Willem-Alexander was inaugurated as the King of the Netherlands. In recent Dutch tradition (beginning with Wax’s grandmother Juliana), monarchs have abdicated and their heirs apparent have been installed on the same day before Parliament. It was a fun event for royal watchers, as many of the usual suspects were in attendance and wearing some spectacular clothing and accessories. My favorite of the day was, by far, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.
I loved this dress in every way. So flattering, fit well, and gorgeous without any attempt to steal the show. I think it even compliments and contrasts with Crown Prince Frederik’s uniform in a subtle way.
I remember initially wanting the headpiece to be in pink to pick up more of the complimentary color, but it’s easy to see why she went with the blue . It reflects well upon another complimentary color, but also her Order of the Elephant sash color, and blue was certainly the theme of the day, if you’ll remember. The pink shoes were a miss for me as I wanted a shiny black, but the pink does tie into the dress pattern.
Mary was able to sneak in a few lovely bits of her Crown Princess uniform by using some of the extra bits of the Danish Ruby Parure in her hair, along with her diamond “F” used to secure her order sash. Nicely played, Madam. Nicely played.

What was your Favorite Thing from that day?
