As Royal Warren(t) notes, the original of this tiara consisted of flax ears of wheat, set in a gold frame. It’s a bit stunning that the Bolsheviks determined it was not a design worthy of permanent display, and sold it off with the other Romanov jewels. Let’s gaze at the photograph of it, captured for the auction at Christies in 1927, and make our determination on who could pile up their hair and wear this now.
See our friend Royal Warrent(s) post yesterday for more information on this fascinating piece!
